Sara Glines is president and publisher of The News & Observer in Raleigh, NC as well as Regional Publisher for McClatchy's 13 media outlets in the East, including the Miami Herald, and the Charlotte Observer. She oversees operations in Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, and North and South Carolina.
She came to the Triangle in September 2016 after years as regional publisher with both Gannett and Digital First Media. She was also president & publisher of the York Daily Record from 2012 to 2016.
She has been an industry leader in transformational change most particularly in moving newspapers and magazines into the digital world to meet the ever-changing needs of the audience and the businesses they serve. Sara has led digital operations for the Journal Register Company, which at the time owned 23 daily and 200 plus non-daily newspapers. She previously worked in the magazine industry at Hachette Filipacchi where she transitioned brands such as Car & Driver, Road & Track, and Woman’s Day to the digital world. In addition, she was in charge of moving from its Paris headquarters to New York.
Sara started her career in the newsroom of the San Francisco Examiner and held several editorships before moving to operations and sales.
Sara lives with her husband John in Cary, NC.
