Jim Cain

“Reviving the American Spirit: A ‘Small World’ Key to Global Prosperity”

This was the fourth time that Jim Cain has addressed the Raleigh Rotary Club; each time in a different capacity. First around 1984 when he was serving as Director of a National Independent Expenditure Campaign called “Americans For Reagan”; then around 2002 while President of the Carolina Hurricanes; then around 2008 in his Diplomatic capacity. We enjoyed his talk about the American Spirit - so appropriate before the July 4th celebration.

Frank Hill "The Institute for the Public Trust"

We enjoyed a lively and educational talk by Frank Hill.  Frank ran for Congress at the age of 28 from Durham, North Carolina. He has a religion degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke. He was chief of staff to former Congressman Alex McMillan (NC-9) and Senator Elizabeth Dole. Frank is the director of the (bipartisan) Institute for the Public Trust in Charlotte which recruits and trains great new people to enter elective politics.  The Rotary Club of Raleigh may possibly have some members in his next class!   For more info see:

Frank is married to Judy Hill, who spoke to us earlier this year about her company High Cotton.

Craig Lloyd:  Futures for Kids

http://www.f4k.org

The mission of Futures for Kids is to connect students to Career Coach Mentors and businesses across NC through our online career exploration program and work-based learning opportunities (internships, job shadowing, career fairs etc.). We equip middle and high school students with the necessary tools to succeed in the 21st Century, while enabling employers to build a steady pipeline of talented, local labor. We are currently used in over 900 middle and high schools across North Carolina by over 517,000 students.

Secretary Tony Tata, Secretary of Transportation of NC, discussed NCDOT’s proposed Strategic Mobility Formula, a new way to fund and prioritize transportation projects to ensure they provide the maximum benefit to our state. His remarks centered on the need for a more efficient way to fund transportation improvements, how the formula works, and the ways in which it will help build a better quality of life for North Carolina. Fox News 14 was there and featured the talk on their website.  See the link:
